September 6th and 7th, 2008 Westover Air Reserve Base
Westover Metropolitan Airport is located in the heart of the "Pioneer Valley" of Western
Massachusetts. Encompassing forty-three communities throughout Hampden and Hampshire Counties, the
immediate market area covers approximately 1,200 square miles, a region roughly the size of
Rhode Island. As home to 602,878 residents, the two counties represent the fourth largest metropolitan
area in New England, and the second largest in Massachusetts.
Westover Metropolitan Airport is owned and managed under a "joint use" agreement with the Department of
Defense by a non-profit industrial development corporation, Westover Metropolitan Corporation. The
corporation was established in 1974 to develop property surplused by the General Services Administration
at the former Westover Air Force Base. Ninety-one acres of the property has been operated since that time
as a public use, regional civilian airport.
